Empakaai is a high-altitude sanctuary accessible only by foot. The mission begins at the rim, which sits at approximately 3,200 meters, offering panoramic views of Oldonyo Lengai and Lake Natron to the north.
The descent into the caldera takes you through a thick, moss-draped cloud forest where blue monkeys and diverse birdlife thrive. Upon reaching the shore, the alkaline lake provides a high-contrast visual landscape where the pink of flamingos meets the deep emerald of the crater walls.
