The 12 days Rwenzori hiking and gorilla trekking safari explores two legendary UNESCO World Heritage sites—Rwenzori Mountains National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Mount Rwenzori’s glaciated summits perfectly complement the deep jungle primate tracking.
Days 1 & 2: Logistics Move to Rwenzori National Park & Initial Trek from Nyakalengija to Nyabitaba (2,651m)
Touch down at Entebbe and complete a scenic ground sector transit westward to the Kasese foothills. On Day 2, meet your elite team of climbers, porters, and cooks at Nyakalengija for safety checkouts. Enter the park boundary trail along the roaring Mubuku River, climbing through thick montane forest canopies and rocky ridges to establish your first alpine camp inside Nyabitaba Hut.
Days 3 & 4: Bamboo Zone Ascent to John Matte Camp (3,505m) & Bog Crossings to Bujuku Camp (3,962m)
Day 3 guides a vertical push crossing the suspension bridge over the Bujuku River, advancing through dense bamboo canopies and the slippery heather zone to reach John Matte. On Day 4, tackle the infamous, deep water-logged terrain of the Bigo Bog on technical boardwalks. Navigate past surreal fields of towering giant lobelias to enter the high-altitude glacial basin of Bujuku Camp.
Days 5 & 6: Elena Camp (4,541m) Glacier Base Ascent, Margherita Peak Summit (5,109m) & Kitandara (4,430m)
Climb steep, slick granite slabs on Day 5 up to the freezing assault point of Elena Camp. Day 6 triggers your midnight summit operations: strap on crampons, ropes, and ice axes to navigate the steep crevasses of the Stanley Glacier. Scale technical vertical rock faces to stand victorious on Margherita Peak (5,109m)—the roof of Uganda and Africa's third-highest glaciated point—before descending safely into the breathtaking Kitandara Lakes valley.
Days 7 & 8: Vertical Wall Descent via Guy Yeoman Camp (3,261m) back down to Nyabitaba Forest Ridges
Initiate a demanding descent loop on Day 7, climbing past the frozen heights of Freshfield Pass (4,505m) before dropping down steep mud fields to Guy Yeoman Camp. Day 8 forces an uninterrupted downwards trek crossing vertical rock ladders and deep forest bogs to complete your loop, arriving back at the familiar rainforest ridge of Nyabitaba.
Days 9 & 10: Mountain Exit Track to Nyakalengija Base & Sector Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
Trek the final forest trail back to the Nyakalengija base post on Day 9 to bid farewell to your dedicated mountain crew and enjoy long-awaited warm showers. On Day 10, board your private 4x4 cruiser for a comprehensive road sector transfer south across the Queen Elizabeth plains, climbing into the misty, high-altitude cloud forest layers of Bwindi.
Days 11 & 12: Premium Mountain Gorilla Trekking Operations & Inbound Sector Return to Kampala / Departure
End of OperationsDay 11 triggers your ultimate primate tracking highlight inside the ancient, tangled undergrowth of Bwindi Forest. Hike steep, rugged ridges under ranger escort before spending a life-changing, silent hour framing and watching a magnificent mountain gorilla family. On Day 12, complete your long-range return drive across the Equator line back to Entebbe terminal for your outbound international flight departure.
